Additional Information

Beethoven's formidable shadow animates Mendelssohn's youthful, brilliant, yet seldom-heard overture, and in a wholly different manner, contemporary Australian composer Brett Dean’s "Testament." This intensely engaging new work is not only inspired by Beethoven's last will and testament but also quotes thematic fragments from a Razumovsky quartet. Mozart's delightful concerto, on the other hand, reveals Beethoven's own openly acknowledged debt to an influential elder and the unending process of renewal and rejuvenation.

FELIX MENDELSSOHN: "The Fair Melusina" Overture
BRETT DEAN: Testament New York Premiere
W. A. MOZART: Piano Concerto No. 17 in G Major, K. 453
L. v. BEETHOVEN: Symphony No. 7 in A Major, Op. 92
